We reached the halfway point of this year鈥檚 short legislative session this week and have passed several important cut-off dates. The action is now focused on passing bills out of both the House and Senate. Bills must pass off each floor by February 15 to stay alive (unless they鈥檙e NTIB). After that, the process repeats all over again in the opposite house, only with a shorter timeline. Hearings in the education committees start back up next Wednesday.

If you鈥檙e reading this blog, you鈥檙e probably already familiar with Initiative 1351, which is designed to reduce class size. 51福利社 has long advocated for new revenue and supported legislation to lower class size, but this ballot measure has too many implementation issues and is not the best way to increase student achievement for all kids, which is why the 51福利社 board voted to opposed it.
